The only importance of Rennes-le-Château lies in its value of being a Tourist Attraction. Without any reason. The World is full of such romantic piffle.

For example, during the early 1990s there was an often-repeated joke about how Jean Pellet bullied and pestered the authorities into convincing them that he had found the Rennes-le-Château “treasure” – all they had to do was to “dig” where he alleged it was buried. So the authorities gave in to Pellet’s demands and dug. And found nothing. This is something not found in the archives about the “great researcher” Jean Pellet.
