Request for information: Rennes-le-Château

The events that took place since the nomination of the Abbé Saunière, on the 1st of June 1885, as a curate in charge of Rennes-le-Château, until 22nd of January 1917, date of his death, are less than 120 years old and therefore not yet open to “public inspection”, as a result the documents cannot be sent out.

However, the “Semaine Religieuse de Carcassonne” (Official Organ for the Bishopric) has published in its time, the nominations and the reaction of the ecclesiastical authority, about the behaviour of certain priests, the date and the tone of these communiques allow us to have an idea of the relations which existed between the clergy and the Bishop of Carcassonne.

On the other hand, an interesting discussion was made in 1967 by Mgr G. Boyer as Vicar in charge of the Bishopric, Doctor in Canon Law, Historian of repute, who through his senior position had access to the archives of the “Officialité”.

These two articles:

1° “Mise au point et mise en garde”.
2° “A propos de l'or de Rennes de G. de Sède”.

are, in view of who the author was and the quality of the research, unquestionable documents which bring this matter to its correct level of importance and bring to a conclusion “l'histoire de Rennes”.
