In an article in the "DEPECHE" of Sunday 4 February 1979, Pierre PONS mentioned my name as well as the book "SIGNE: ROSE+CROIX" in connection with the "... three latest victims" of the ACCURSED TREASURE OF RENNES-LE-CHATEAU.

The article pays me a great compliment by stating that this book "is the definitive work on the subject" since, if all the readers of the article will no doubt be aware that the book is in fact a republication of "L'OR DE RENNES", first published by Editions RENE JULLIARD in November 1967, hardly any of them will know that the person named as the author, GERARD de SÈDE, merely lent his name to my books.

I am compelled to issue this "Update" in order to trace in outline how the book SIGNE: ROSE+CROIX came to be published and to enable readers to understand the true significance of my "Preface" to the book "LA VRAIE LANGUE CELTIQUE" by Abbé BOUDET, which was published by Editions PIERRE BELFONT in December 1978.

On 17 July 1965, having completed the manuscript of L'OR DE RENNES, and acting in accordance with prior arrangements made with Editions JULLIARD, I informed Mr. Pierre JAVET, the firm's Publishing Director, that the manuscript was ready. It was Mademoiselle Janine MUSY who replied to me. We met on Monday 26 July 1965 and, after reading the manuscript, it was agreed to go ahead with publication.

Not wishing to see "my own name" appear as that of the "author" of this work, I contacted Gérard de SÈDE in December 1965. Monsieur de SÈDE professed to be completely unaware of the existence of RENNES-LE-CHATEAU, but he had acted as my co-author on the book "LES TEMPLIERS SONT PARMI NOUS" and I held him in the sincere affection that a master craftsman has for his best mate. By notarial act dated 31 January 1966, registered under number H 27276, Gérard de SÈDE, in return for 35% of my royalties, allowed his name to be used as the author of "L'OR DE RENNES". The contract should have been signed at the publisher's premises on 1 March 1966.

At the time the contract was due to be signed, however, Gérard de Sède informed us that he was ill and then telephoned me to demand 50% of my royalties for giving his name to the work. Finally he gave as his excuse for the delay a request for information that he had sent to Mr. DEBANT, Director of Archives for the Aude and the fact that he was awaiting a reply from Colonel ARNAUD, from whom he had requested some details on the code on the tombstone of the Marquise de BLANCHEFORT! This haggling went on until December 1966.

Faced with these events, Mr. Christian BOURGOIS, Managing Director of Editions JULLIARD, and myself had the idea of publishing L'OR DE RENNES under the name of Philippe de CHERISEY. It was then that Gérard de SÈDE decided to sign the original contract – this was on 13 January 1967.

It was then agreed that he would correct the printer's proofs himself (I myself was busy taking part in a television broadcast by Pierre LAFORET).

When I received the volumes from Editions JULLIARD on 10 November 1967 I was absolutely astonished to read on pages 132-137 some comments about Mr. DEBANT and Colonel ARNAUD, embellished with reproductions of "forged parchments" (1) as well as a faking of some of my photos. Enquiries revealed that Gérard de SÈDE had taken advantage of his task of correcting the proofs to introduce into the book some elements that were merely figments of his own imagination. Unfortunately the book was already in the bookshops, so there was nothing we could do about it.

In March 1977, Editions JULLIARD informed Gérard de SÈDE and myself separately that they were taking L'OR DE RENNES, which had at that time been on sale for 10 years old, off the market. Gérard de SÈDE, introducing himself to Editions PLON as the author of the work, and abusing their confidence, asked for L'OR DE RENNES to be republished under the title "SIGNE: ROSE+CROIX". Thus it was that in a bookshop on 20 June 1977 I came across this plagiarism and further misuse of "the authoritative work on the subject", to use Pierre PONS's expression.

Since 10 JULY 1977 I have forbidden sale of the book "SIGNE: ROSE+CROIX", which is teeming with errors, including some on the very first page (Gérard de SÈDE, in his incompetence, was not even able to spot that the picture of the "Devil" is shown back to front). On 24 October 1977 I refused to allow publication, in the series Livres des Poches, of "J'AI LU", the plagiarism of L'OR DE RENNES.

In April 1978, Mr. Pierre BELFONT contacted me and asked me if I would be so kind as the write a preface for the book that he wanted to republish entitled "LA VRAIE LANGUE CELTIQUE" by Abbé Henri BOUDET. Before agreeing to this, however, I asked several people's opinion on the advisability of such a publication. Through someone's indiscretion, Gérard de SÈDE was able to learn of the plans to publish the work. Using documents that I had entrusted to him, as well as my photocopies of the book by Abbé BOUDET, he therefore rushed out a republication of LA VRAIE LANGUE CELTIQUE himself.

I leave it to the readers to decide on the actions of Gérard de SÈDE, as the sole purpose of my present response is to provide an "Update" to an article by Pierre PONS.

Dans un article de la "DEPECHE" en date du Dimanche 4 Février 1979, Pierre PONS faisait citation de mon nom, ainsi que du livre "SIGNE: ROSE+CROIX" à propos de "... trois nouvelles victims" du TRESOR MAUDIT DE RENNES-LE-CHATEAU.

C'est faire beaucoup d'honneur à ma personne en déclarant que cet ouvrage "…fait autorité en la matière…", car si tous les lecteurs savent que ce livre est la réédition de "L'OR DE RENNES" publié pour la première fois en Novembre 1967 aux Editions RENE JULLIARD, presque tous ignorent que l'écrivain GERARD de SEDE fut le prête nom de mes oeuvres.

Cette "Mise au Point", m'oblige à retracer en quelques lignes l'origine de la publication SIGNE: ROSE+CROIX et permettra aux lecteurs d'apprécier à sa juste valeur ma "Préface" du livre "LA VRAIE LANGUE CELTIQUE" de l'Abbé BOUDET, publié aux Editions PIERRE BELFONT en Décembre 1978,

Le 17 Juillet 1965, le manuscrit de L'OR DE RENNES étant achevé, suivant mon accord antérieur avec les Editions JULLIARD, j'en informais Mr. Pierre JAVET, Directeur d'éditions. C'est Melle Janine MUSY qui me fit réponse. Notre rencontre eut lieu le Lundi 26 Juillet 1965, et après lecture, la publication fut décidée.

Ne désirant pas voir "mon non" figurer comme "auteur" de cet ouvrage, j'ai contacté Gérard de SEDE en Décembre 1965. Celui-ci ignorait totalement l'existence de RENNES-LE-CHATEAU, mais il était mon co-auteur du livre "LES TEMPLIERS SONT PARMI NOUS" et j'avais pour lui la sincère amitié du maître à son meilleur compagnon. Par acte du 31 Janvier 1966 enregistré n° H 27276, Gérard de SEDE, contre 35 % de mes droits d'auteur, cédait SON NOM pour "L'OR DE RENNES". Le contrat devait être signé chez l'éditeur le 1er Mars 1966...

Au moment de la signature Gérard de Sède déclara qu'il était malade et téléphona par la suite pour me réclamer 50% des droits d'auteurs afin de donner son nom. Ultérieurement il prétexta une demande de renseignements auprès de Mr. DEBANT, directeur des Archives de l'Aude et l'attente de la réponse du Colonel ARNAUD auxquels il avait demandé des précisions au sujet du codage de la pierre tombale de la Marquise de BLANCHEFORT! Ce marchandage dura jusqu'en Décembre 1966….

Devant ces faits, Mr. Christian BOURGOIS, directeur des Editions JULLIARD et moi-même, nous pensions publier L'OR DE RENNES sous le nom de Philippe de CHERISEY. C'est alors que Gérard de SEDE se décida à signer le contrat primitif, ceci le 13 Janvier 1967. Il fut alors convenu qu'il ferait la correction des épreuves de l'imprimeur. Moi-même, je m'engageais à le faire participer à une émission télévisée de Pierre LAFORET.

Lors de ma réception des volumes envoyés par les Editions JULLIARD le 10 Novembre 1967, grande fut ma stupéfaction de lire aux pages 132 à 137 un commentaire où il est question de Mr. DEBANT et du Colonel ARNAUD et agrémenté de la reproduction de "faux parchemins" (1) ainsi que du trucquage de certaines de mes photos. L'enquête révéla que Gérard de SEDE avait profité de son travail de correction des épreuves pour introduire dans l'ouvrage des éléments de sa pure fantaisie. Le livre se trouvait déjà dans le commerce, nous ne pouvions plus rien faire.

En Mars 1977, les Editions JULLIARD nous informèrent séparément, Gérard de SEDE et moi-même, qu'ils retiraient du circuit commercial L'OR DE RENNES qui avait 10 ans. Gérard de SEDE se présentant comme auteur aux Editions PLON, abusant de leur confiance, demanda la réédition de l'OR DE RENNES sous le titre de "SIGNE: ROSE+CROIX". C'est ainsi que le 20 Juin 1977 dans une librairie j'ai découvert le plagiat et la nouvelle forfaiture de celui qui "fait autorité en la matière", selon l'expression de Pierre PONS,

Depuis le 10 JUILLET 1977 j'ai fait interdire la vente du livre "SIGNE: ROSE+CROIX" qui fourmille d'erreurs, y compris la première page…. (Gérard de SEDE, dans son incompétence n'a même pas été fichu de s'apercevoir que la représentation du "diable" se trouvait à l'envers). Le 24 Octobre 1977 j'ai refusé la publication dans les livres de poche "J'AI LUI"….ce plagiat de l'OR DE RENNES

En Avril 1978, Mr. Pierre BELFONT prenait contact avec moi et me demandait de bien vouloir écrire une préface au livre qu'il désirait rééditer: "LA VRAIE LANGUE CELTIQUE" de l'Abbé Henri BOUDET, or avant de lui donner une réponse affirmative, j'ai consulté diverses personnes pour savoir l'opportunité de cette publication et par une indiscrétion, Gérard de SEDE s'est trouvé au courant du projet. Utilisant alors des documentations que je lui avais confiées, ainsi que mes photocopies du livre de l'Abbe BOUDET, il s'est précipité de faire une réédition de la VRAIE LANGUE CELTIQUE.

Je laisse aux lecteurs le soin d'apprécier les procédés de Gérard de SEDE, car ma présente réponse n'a d'autre objet qu'une "Mise au point" à un article de Pierre PONS.
